Introductory Course

This course is for beginners or anyone who is interested in obtaining the fundamentals of kayak touring. This course covers safety techniques, paddle strokes, small craft regulations, and consists of a leisurely paddle in calm waters.

Basic Boat knowledge

  • Kayak tie down techniques
  • Care and maintenance of your boat
  • Sizing your boat
  • Using your rudder

Basic paddle strokes

  • Forward, reverse and sweep strokes

Safety on the water

  • Coast guard regulations
  • Proper boat entry and exit
  • Use of safety equipment

Wet exit (optional)

  • Demonstration on land
  • Interactive session
  • Optional wet exit

Intermediate Course

This course is for the paddler who wants to be self-sufficient on the water. It will build confidence and skills and is a pre-requisite for boat rentals and for the advanced rolling course. This course is all about getting wet! So be prepared to swim! (wet suits recommended) We will take you on a paddle that will increase your efficiency and stamina.

Advanced Course

This course is designed to give paddlers the confidence they will need to face adverse conditions. After taking the rolling and bracing portion of the course, your skills should be strong enough that you may never need to roll! The rolling portion of this course can be separated.

For every person added, a discount will be applied to the original price (up to the 5 person group rate of $65 per person).  Special lesson rates are available for youth, school and corporate groups (contact us for more information).
